Why We Love Winter in Uxbridge, Ontario

Only in Uxbridge! Other Ontario cities may get into the winter season, but nowhere goes all out quite like we do. The non-stop festivities are sure to bring warmth and joy to your soul, no matter how slushy or snowy it may be outside.

If you’re looking for an event that your whole family will remember, you will be thrilled with how many incredible Uxbridge attractions are on the calendar. It really is a testament to how much we all get into the festive spirit Canada is known for!

Uxbridge Farmer’s Market Holiday Markets

Take two of our favourite things, a farmer’s market plus a holiday celebration, and it all adds up to a winter season we can all look forward to! Festive foods, fresh produce, crafts, plus a ton of extra fun in the form of music and live performances are all part of the experience.

The first holiday-themed celebrations at the Uxbridge Farmer’s Market kick off in November. As the countdown to Christmas begins and the temperature gets colder, the whole market gets moved indoors to create a warm and magical experience. If you haven’t started your shopping yet, this is a fun way to find the perfect gift and support talented, local vendors and artists at the same time.

Do you want to know more about Uxbridge and the welcoming vibe you can expect here? The posts below will give you an inkling of what life is like in our community:

Uxbridge Optimist Fantasy of Lights

What are the holidays without light displays, and this time-honoured tradition of lights at Elgin Park takes the spectacular display to the next level! This drive-through experience alone is sure to put you in a jolly spirit.

Picture a winter wonderland, brought to life with thousands of lights, all while you stay cozy and dry, taking in the sight from the comfort of your car. The relatively new addition of the Fantasy Trail footpath allows you to walk through instead of driving and really take your time to see it all.

We particularly love that this event is brought to you by volunteers from the community. Attend once, and you may find yourself hooked for life!

Uxbridge isn’t just glorious in the winter! Its fall beauty is also unprecedented. Learn more in A Celebration of Fall in Uxbridge, Ontario.

Holiday Trail and Christmas Shopping Crawl

The downtown core is about to transform into a friendly and festive shopping paradise! Picking up those special items never felt so magical, not when you include free trolley rides and live music to accompany your shopping experience.

There’s even a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs Claus for the little ones (and perhaps the big kids still at heart!) The event is sometimes referred to as the Uxbridge Holiday Trail, organized by Tourism Uxbridge.

Our team sponsors the event, and we also organize the Christmas Crawl portion where local businesses donate a basket full of goodies. Draw tickets are sold, and proceeds benefit the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation. That’s why you might hear some people refer to this event as “the Cindy Wood Christmas Crawl.” Whatever the name, you won’t want to miss it!

The Uxbridge Santa Claus Parade

We contend that no one is ever too old to get excited about Santa, and the attendance at the well-loved Santa Claus Parade proves our case. This all-ages event has been a beloved tradition since 1961, when local businesses and other organizations teamed up to bring spectacular floats, talented marching bands and entertainers together.

A non-perishable food drive helps make the season joyful for the less fortunate in the community, and volunteers often walk the parade to collect children’s letters to Santa. The arrival of Mr & Mrs Claus is the main event, of course. The whole crowd will go wild as we officially mark the start of the holiday season.

Everyday Uxbridge Attractions to Enjoy All Winter Long

Winter may be a season for recurring events and exciting one-offs. However, there are countless everyday activities waiting to be enjoyed any time, whenever you feel the call to a snowy adventure!

Ski Lakeridge and Dagmar Ski Resort are premium examples, and both offer dedicated slopes just for snowboarding. Still working on your ski legs?

Magic Carpet only passes are available, giving you access to the beginner hill at a discount. If your passion gets ignited, you can always brush up on your skills at the in-house Ski and Snowboard School. If skiing is not your thing, you can still find exhilarating ways to race down the hill. In fact, Lakeridge is also the place to be for Uxbridge snow tubing!

Do you prefer gliding through picturesque scenery to racing downhill? Uxbridge is not the official Trail Capital of Canada for nothing! Forested, groomed trails are available for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you could always forge your own path along some of the ungroomed trails of Walker Woods or Glen Major Forest. Afterwards, you can warm up in the chalet as you sip a hot chocolate or coffee.

The winter fun is still just beginning! Grab your ice skates and visit the Uxbridge Arena and Community Centre. Year-round public skates are available. When the snow starts to fall, it’s time to grab your gear and enjoy a heart-racing game of Shinny.

Walk For Women

The Cindy Wood Team both organizes and sponsors this event to coincide with International Women’s Day. It’s a chance to get together with your friends and family for a morning of conversation and a little light exercise, all while raising money for women’s health. We are proud to have raised over $25,000 to date, with all funds going to the new Uxbridge Hospital.

The list of fun activities in Uxbridge is just one aspect that makes it such a great place to live. We also can’t get enough of its small-town vibe and the elevated lifestyle we all experience every day. These are just a few reasons we are thrilled to call this our home, and we are sure you will love it here, too!
